The UK has awarded 12 companies a total of 20 offshore storage licenses for CO2 that couldsupport its goal of capturing and storing up to 30 million tons of CO2 per year — some 10% of UKemissions — by 2030. CO2 injection could start as early as 2027, according to the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA),which launched the carbon storage licensing round — the fi rst of its kind in the UK — last June.
