The relationship between transient dental bacteremias and infection of penile and other prostheses is covered in this review. Of the two published papers on penile implants and dental procedures, one presented two cases of penile implant infection that the authors stated were caused by dental procedures; these cases were, however, not well documented. The other paper was a report of a national survey of urologists, in which their opinions on the possible association between invasive dental procedures and penile implant infections were presented. The urologists were also asked to comment on the need for antibiotic prophylaxis for these patients when visiting the dentist: 43% of the responders recommended antibiotic prophylaxis for penile implant patients receiving invasive dental treatment. I, however, do not support this practice.
