New Guide Spans Gamut of Maxi-Horizontal Directional Drilling

Maxi-horizontal directional drilling (maxi-HDD) places polyethylene (PE) pipe or conduit below grade using equipment that minimizes surface damage and restoration requirements. As a result, there is little disruption of vehicular or maritime traffic and minimal impact on existing underground lines and services. Used for telecommunications, electric power, natural gas, petroleum, and fluid transport, maxi-HDD is installed under rivers or other obstacles, typically with large-diameter pipes over long distances common in major river crossings.To provide guidelines for maxi-HDD installation and design of PE pipe, ASTM F 1962, Standard Guide for Use of Maxi-Horizontal Directional Drilling for Placement of Polyethylene Pipe or Conduit Under Obstacles, Including River Crossings, is now available.
