10 Years of UVR-FIA GmbH Annual Conference on 'Processing and Recycling' in Freiberg/Saxony

This year's conference on "Processing and Recycling", held on 13/14 November, 2002 at the Freiberg Start-Up and Innovation Centre (formerly the Research institute of Mineral Processing in the East German Academy of Sciences) centred around the 10-year anniversary of the establishment of the company UVR-FIA GmbH. Around 80 guests from all over the Federal Republic of Germany accepted the invitation and attended the event. In view of the good response to the conference in previous years, the organizers, the Gesellschaft fur Umwelt-verfahrenstechnik und Recycling e.V. Freiberg (UVR-Society for Environmental Process Engineering and Recycling Regd Freiberg), the Wissenschaftlich-Technische Gesellschaft fur Verfahrenstechnik Freiberg e.V. (FIA-Scientific-Technical Society for Process Engineering Freiberg Regd) and the Gesellschaft fur Aufbereitungstechnik und Recycling e.V. (GAR-Society for Mineral Processing and Recycling Regd) extended the conference by half a day. The 18 papers and 20 poster presentations reported on recent developments and trends in processing and recycling. Besides various seminal studies, a focus of this year's conference was waste treatment with the aim of cost-efficient recycling in compliance with the provisions of the Federal Act for Promoting Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management and Ensuring Environmentally Compatible Waste Disposal and the amended Technical Directive on Residential Waste (TASi) due to come into effect as of 2005.
