Processing Concepts for Substitute Fuels

The primary users of substitute fuels are waste incineration plants, cement works, power stations and special secondary raw material recycling plants such as the ,,Schwarze Pumpe" facility in Germany. The physical and chemical parameters of secondary fuels must meet user requirements and non-reusable material fractions must comply with the specifications of the German ordinance on waste storage (Abfallablagerungsverordnung). Several processes are available for the production of substitute fuels: mechanical-biological waste treatment, mechanical-physical stabilization treatment and dry stabilization treatment. The total cost of these processes is made up of the different costs fro substitute fuel production, treatment and landfilling of non-reusable material fractions, logistics, acceptance rates and overheads. A small revenue can be earned by recycling any scrap salvage from the waste. It is important to take developments on the market for substitute fuels into account.
