The previous four parts of this series described the creation of small bonsai by building the trees from stock. In an ideal bonsai world we would like to locate the perfect collected tree for small bonsai. Much of the time it involves creating a cut back as shown in Part 4 (Volume 43, Number 2). Once in a great while, a wonderful treasure is found in nature. The forces of nature will have created a small piece of perfection for us to admire and, if very lucky, collect.
