Optical method of measuring the thickness of a transparent plate with a scattering surface

This paper discusses an optical method of determining the thickness of a transparent plate with a single diffusely scattering surface. Various ways of implementing the given method are presented, in particular for determining the level of a liquid. An estimate is given of the accuracy of the measurements.
