There has been a resurgence of interest in redefining the trace mineral needs of poultry brought about by concerns for the environment and particularly the level of trace minerals in manure and the improved genetic potential of modern poultry breeds and dramatically improved performance. The somewhat dated NRC recommendations were assessed for maximising growth rate in broilers and egg production and egg weight in layers, however, commercial goals have evolved and may impact on trace mineral needs.
