Involving Europe in a new generation of global navigation satellite system (GNSS)

摘要

This paper summonses the main reasons for having a European Global Navigation Satellite System (E-GNSS now named GALILEQ), and the organisation of the proposed programme for the development. A short recall of the satellite navigation concepts and status is also presented. The paper describes in some details the main, EC supported, running project GALA (GALileo overall Architecture definition) and the role of the Pilot Projects planned inside this project.
