ASTM international continued to break new ground in public/private sector cooperation as evidenced by a number of standards-related activities in the aviation industry in 2006. Notable among these developments was the acceptance by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of a new electrical load standard: F 2490, Guide for Aircraft Electrical Load and Power Source Capacity Analysis. Released in 2005, F 2490 is the first standard developed by ASTM Committee F39 on Normal and Utility Category Airplane Electrical Wiring Systems. The FAA's acceptance of this standard follows a similar action in 2005, when it adopted 15 ASTM standards developed by ASTM Committee F37 on Light Sport Aircraft.
