This paper discusses features of the process of stimulated Raman scattering for the amplification and compression of femtosecond pulses. The main regularities of the process are analyzed, negative factors that reduce the energy-pumping efficiency are explained, and the optimum conditions of the process for obtaining the greatest energy-con version efficiency are determined.
