An ASTM Symposium on Spatial Methods for the Solution of Environmental and Hydrologic Problems: Science, Policy, and Standardization-Implications for Environmental Decisions will be held Jan. 25-26,2001, at the John Ascuaga's Nugget, Reno, Nev. This symposium is sponsored by ASTM Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, in cooperation with ASTM Committees D34 on Waste Management, E47 on Biological Effects and Environmental Fate, and E50 on Environmental Assessment. The International Commission on Remote Sensing of the International Association of Hydrologic Sciences, the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation are cooperating organizations.The objective of this symposium is to bring together international experts and professionals who are developing or applying geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and global positioning system (GPS) technologies to environmental and hydrologic problems. The symposium will provide a forum for the presentation on the development of these technologies, and on recent applications of a variety of spatial analysis methods. Topics will include methods for ensuring data quality, data integration, data analysis and the resolution differences in professional terminology and standards applied to environmental and hydrologic problems.
