By means of reprocessing methods, usable and saleable products can be generated from household waste incineration ashes. Problems in reprocessing are caused by the wide fluctuations in the material composition of the grate ashes. In this paper, a plant for the reprocessing of grate slag that went into operation in 1997 is taken as an example to illustrate optimization potential for the process by the balancing of the ferrous scrap and non ferrous metal material flows.
