This paper discusses a multiaperture wave-front sensor for a system for coherently adding laser beams with active feedback, whose operation is based on the Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm. An analysis is given of the algorithm, and it is shown that, when it is used to retrieve phase information, it is characterized by the ambiguity of the solution and the presence of "stagnation" states. A phase-retrieval strategy based on global-optimization methods is proposed. Physical modeling is carried out, using phase-information retrieval for a seven-aperture system.
