Berlin Energy Conference 2006 Processing waste for the substitution of fossil fuels

The focus of the Berlin Energy Conference on 8 and 9 November 2006, which was organized by the publishing house TK Verlag Nietwerder-Neuruppin, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. K. j. Thome-Kozmiensky (Fig. 1) and Prof. Dr.-lng. M. Beckmann, Weimar, was the production and utilization of waste-derived fuels (WDF) and biomass for the substitution of fossil fuels. The over 300 German and foreign attendees from industry, research, and relevant authorities testified to the great interest in waste management in general and the waste-to-energy recycling in particular. The topicality of the subject and the individual papers, but also the competence of the speakers were again the hallmark of this event in the series of Berlin waste management conferences. Substitution of conventional fuels The opportunities, but also the risks and unresolved problems associated with the use of waste for the generation of energy were the subject of the first session. In this session the speakers included governmental representatives (Dr Helge Wendenburg, Assistant Director at the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Bonn: Contribution of the waste management industry to the energy supply of the Federal Republic of Germany).
