The most commonly applied separation process in fines preparation is flotation, but at the same time it is also the most expensive method available. To improve its cost efficiency, KHD Humboldt Wedag AG relies on its Pneuflot technology. The interaction of innovative flotation and a reagent regime optimally adjusted to the feed material results in an outstanding operating performance. Its low costs make the Pneuflot with Ekof reagents an interesting alternative not only for new investments in flotation plants, but also for the conversion, replacement and extension of flotation units in existing processing plants. A study conducted by Deutsche Steinkohle AG, DSK, in connection with the extension of a coal preparation plant in the Ruhr district of Germany showed that the investment costs for the installation of a Pneuflot plant were around 35 percent lower than for an agitator flotation system. This saving also takes its lower space requirement into consideration. The actual operating costs are much lower, as shown by the example of a Pneuflot that has already been in operation for eight years without any replacement of its wear parts being necessary so far.
