Many methods have been developed for scoring in a systematic way the quality for aday old chicly Methods have included scoring in terms of viability, alertness, naval quality etc. Although they do give a score of the "looks" of a chick, it is questionable if these methods are really adequate for measuring chick quality. The goal of a chick scoring system is to have an indicator of potential performance of the bird. A scoring system based on the "looks" of a day old chick probably gives more information about its chance on surviving the first week.
