December deadline for Jakarta's slaughter rules

Five new slaughter facilities, one of which is privately owned, are currently being set up in the outskirts of Jakarta. Apart from this the new channels of trade and distribution have yet to be formalized. At a recent meeting in Jakarta with Don P. Utoyo, Coordinator of FMPI (Forum Masyarakat Perunggasan Indonesia), a forum of associations and parties linked to the poultry industry and related businesses, and council members of GOPAN (Gabungan Organisasi Peternak Ayam Nasional), a national level association of poultry raisers, Asian Poultry Magazine learnt that public awareness of these new rules is also lacking.
