Panasonic Corporation has developed new thin-profile display panel technologies for both plasma display panel (PDP) and LCD high-definition TVs (HDTVs), which were able to achieve among the industry's highest-level picture quality and energy efficiency. The prototypes that bear these technologies were featured during the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States in January. The first technology is the NewPDPeco technology, which has been incorporated in the company's two kinds of PDPs. The first model is the high-efficiency 42-inch PDP that achieves triple luminance efficiency and comes with reduced power consumption of 1/3 than the preceding products. On the other hand, the second is an ultra-thin 50-inch PDP with 8.8mm profile. Both ultra-thin panels deliver one of the world's highest moving picture resolution of 1080 lines.
