Not all phytases are equal

The availability of commercial phytase enzymes at economic prices has been a most significant development in applied poultry nutrition. These products degrade a portion of the phytate found in dietary plant ingredients, thereby releasing a range of nutrients, including calcium, phosphorus, other minerals, protein/amino acids and energy. For an added diet cost of around USD 1.00/tonne feed, the potential value of the released nutrients, plus the value of 'space' saved, in high-density Asian broiler diets may be USD 5-8/tonne feed, allowing for a significant net feed cost reduction.
