Optimising broiler performance in open-sided housing

The modern broiler chick can grow about twice their day-old bodyweight at day 3 and more than four times by day 7. For every 1 gram improvement in gain, this means about 10 grams in bodyweight at harvest. Broiler raising is all about putting as much feed as you can into the birds as early as possible. The sooner we feed the birds, the faster the gut develops. Crop fill check is done to ensure that every chick is able to get feed and water as soon as it is placed. In about 24 hours after placement, we should be able to see about 95% of the chicks with feed and water in their crops.
