Biological measures including vaccination will necessarily form a maior part of a holisticapproach to infection control of Salmonella. PAUL BAROW* discusses the importance of limited excretion of the vaccine strains and the role of secretory IgA and cell immunity after administration of live Salmonella vaccines.Salmonella remains a major problem for the broiler and egg sectors of the poultry industry worldwide both in terms of disease, resulting in morbidity and associated reduced productivity but also mortality, an also from the point of view of Salmonella asa zoonotic infection causing food-poisoning, which itself can have an effect on the economics of the industry.
