Free-range egg production allows laying hens the freedom to express their full behavior. However, this system exposes the hens to many pathogenic challenges that may lead to a range of diseases. In Australia, free-range production represents about 34% of the country's commercial egg production with about 55% of the production is still in conventional cages.
