摘要

Large cities like Chennai often rely on piped water supply to meet residents' needs on a daily basis and so the existence of groundwater is actually a gift. The quality of groundwater is deteriorating as a result of population growth and poor waste management. Hence, it is essential to constantly check the groundwater's quality. In light of this, the goal of this study is to evaluate the quality of the drinking water in urbanised regions along the Adyar and Cooum rivers. From 26 groundwater samples, physico-chemical, chemical and biological parameters were measured that are collected during the pre-monsoon season. A comparison was made between the results and the WHO and BIS standards. Then, the drinking water quality index (DWQI) was determined. The results are satisfactory but continuous monitoring and the improvement in the quality of water should be taken into consideration.
