Another step forward for SBOP

Transocean has taken the next step in advancing the use of surface BOPs for a floating drilling rig. The drilling contractor, which helped pioneer the technique in Indonesia with Unocal (AOG March/April 2001), recently landed and tested an environmental safety guard system (ESG) at Total's OTI-1 B1 well in Indonesia in 6100ft of water from the Sedco 601 semisubmersible (pictured).
