The spectroluminescence properties of fluorophosphate glasses of the Ba(PO3)(2)-BaF2-CaF2-MgF2-AlF3-SrF2-YF3 system doped with erbium fluoride in concentrations from 1 to 12.5 mol have been comprehensively investigated. The Judd-Ofelt parameters, the absorption and stimulated-emission cross sections, and the gain spectrum have been calculated for the principal laser transition of erbium at 1.5 mu m. The glasses studied here are promising materials for creating lasers and amplifiers that operate at a wavelength of 1.5 mu m. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America.
