US natural gas futures bolted above $9 per million Btu on Tuesday, regaining the ground lost in the wake of the Jun. 8 explosion and Ore that shutdown Freeport LNG. The question is why? The September gas contract soared 60.1c to $9.329/MMBtu and has now climbed $1.74 since last Monday. Trailing contracts through February also adopted $9 handles in an extraordinary rally underpinned by dubious fundamentals.
