THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT has awarded eight new offshore petroleum exploration permits in waters off Western Australia and Tasmania,amounting to upwards of 125 million in exploration investment over the next six years.Six of the new permits are located in the Carnarvon Basin of Western Australia,two of which are located over designated frontier areas(DFA)that allow an immediate uplift to 150% on petroleum resource rent tax deductions for exploration expenditure.
