NEW TECHNOLOGIES designed to improve safety and reduce the carbon footprint of public transport are finding their way into London's iconic red double-decker buses. Systems automatically adjusting speeds of buses based on speed limits in the area will be tested on a fleet of 47 vehicles. The trial, which draws data from the Digital Speed Map of London and combines it with GPS positions of the vehicles, should free the driver's attention from having to constantly keep an eye on the speedometer. With the technology taking care of speed limit compliance, the drivers will be able to keep their focus on the road, Transport for London (TfL) believes.
