A positive outlook in India's paint industry is prompting most big firms to go ahead with ambitious expansion plans but perhaps their biggest challenge will be remaining competitive as the cost of raw materials escalates, says Raghavendra Verma. Smiles are back in the boardrooms of Indian paint companies as an upswing in the Indian economy has revived demand that remained subdued in 2008 and 2009. "There is an upbeat mood in the whole industry," says Ashwini Mehra, Delhi region chairman of the Indian Paint & Coating Association (IPCA).
