SO FINLAND FINALLY opted for the Lockheed Martin F-35A. As Finnish Defence Minister Antti Kaikkonen put it during a news conference on December 11:"When comparing military performance, the F-35 best met our needs." This came after a pretty comprehensive six-year analysis - known as HX - of the five competitors. In addition to Lockheed Martin, there was BAE Systems' Eurofighter, the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and E/A-18G Growler, the Dassault Rafale and Saab's Gripen E/F and GlobalEye in contention.
