Climate Change: The Greatest Equity Issue in Public Health

Public health is all about meeting challenges to improve the health of the whole community. In the past century, the public health movement moved against infection and undernutrition and achieved massive improvements in health and quality of life. By the end of the century, we were striving to achieve equity of access to a healthy life and to meet the increasing challenge of chronic disease and obesity. Now, the world faces what may become the greatest public health challenge it has ever faced-the challenge of climate change. At the same time, we must not become complacent about all of our previous public health challenges that still exist in our region.
