This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of the nonlinear-optical response of photochromic silicate glasses with copper chloride nanocrystals in the visible region for nano- and picosecond laser pulses. It is shown that an optical response appears when the energy density is 0.1-1 nJ/cm(2). The influence of preliminary heat treatment and the size and concentration of the nanocrystals on the characteristics of the optical response is studied. (C) 2008 Optical Society of America.
