COMMERCIALIZING REGENERATIVE MEDICINE TECHNOLOGIES: ACHIEVING SCALE IN CHINA?

Regenerative medicine is an emerging field of biomedicine. Based on new exciting breakthroughs in the field of cell biology and developmental biology, it has great potential to treat a range of human diseases. Whilst the term, regenerative medicine, is widely used, it is now considered to embrace cell therapies, biomaterials applications, tissue engineering and regeneration-stimulating compounds among its key technology platforms. Regenerative therapies help the body to heal itself. Cells, "genetic constructs", and other biological building blocks, together with bio-engineered materials, are used to help the body repair its own damaged tissue or to create simple replacement "spare parts", for example bone, cartilage and lung tissue. Some bioactive materials can also improve repair of damaged tissue without the addition of cells.
