Distinguishing between Chinese medicine and herbal medicine

Many people mistakenly refer to Chinese medicine as herbal medicine, and vice versa. Although it is true that herbacious plants, such as the Asiatic plantain (Plantago asiatica), and their seeds are common ingredients in Chinese medicine, it is not scientifically valid to use both terms interchangeably.
