Hand spun cotton yarn produced on charkha has been characterized in terms of physical, mechanical properties and appearance grade. A wide variability in the characteristics was observed. Usually the yarn is found to be slightly inferior to an equivalent mill yarn produced by the same mixing. However, there are few isolated cases where the yarn is as good as mill yarn.
