When the city of Culiacan witnessed a battle between drug cartels and the Mexican armed forces last January, they witnessed a radical change in tactics by the air force in tackling the criminals. In the early hours of January 5, the capital of the state of Sinaloa in northern Mexico, local media and citizens reported the blockade of streets, burning of vehicles and the presence of a large number of armed gang members. At the same time videos of the city of Culiacan began to circulate in which military planes and helicopters could be seen flying overhead. Later, official sources confirmed that violence had erupted and asked citizens not to leave their homes.
