We thank Dr. Li and colleagues for their interest in our study (1). Herein, we will attempt to address their questions. Annually, approximately 12 000 car-diovascular operations are performed in our institute, among them 4300-4500 open-heart surgeries. These include high-risk operations such as emergency surgery, combined coronary artery bypass grafting/valvular surgery, and aortic repairs. The incidence of dialysis-requiring acute kidney injury (AKI) is significant in these types of operations and may reach 5.1% (2,3).
