Czech hosiery manufacturer Evona, based in the east Bohemian town of Chrudim, was founded in 1949 as a subsidiary of a state-owned company, Elite Varnsdorf.Initially it focused primarily on production of rayon stockings and in 1952 also began to manufacture silk stockings, however, this venture was unsuccessful. A year later, after experimenting with cotton, its attentionturned to nylon stockings, which led to a growth in sales of 351%.
