The start-up of Shell Chemicals' proposed cracker in Qatar,in the early part of the next decade would coincide with strong demand for petrochemicals in the Asia-Pacific,according to Sven Royall,the firm's vice-president for strategy,acquisitions,and divestments.The Anglo-Dutch major is looking at exporting petrochemical products from Qatar to this region,especially China.The timing of the cracker's start-up would be right,as the demand growth for petrochemicals in this region is expected to remain at around the same rate as individual countries' gross domestic product growth,' said Royall.
