From Obamacare to Markets in Artificial Organs

I had the opportunity to attend the 50th Congress of the Japanese Artificial Organs in Fukuoka, Japan on November 22-24, 2012 at the invitation of Congress President Professor Ryuji Tominaga. When I and Dr. Yukihiko Nose were at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Tominaga was a fellow in our department. He and many other Japanese doctors, scientists, and engineers were members of our research teams, and now are leaders in the development and clinical applications of artificial organs in Japan and the Asia Pacific region.
