A very cheap renal replacement therapy in the intensive care unit: is it possible?

We read with great interest the article of Farese et al. (1) about the cost analysis during renal replacement therapy (RRT). Actually, the patients' hemody-namic status still influences the length of treatments (intermittent vs. continuous [CRRT]) and, therefore, the costs, although at present, available data suggest that both methods are equal with respect to patient outcome (2).These results may change nephrologists' behavior in acute kidney injury management especially in dialysis-length strategy as well as in a different cost administration.
