Penn State Hershey Pediatric Cardiovascular Research Center: 2011 update.

The objective of the 2011 Research Update is to share the most recent developments and publications generated at the Penn State Hershey Pediatric Cardiovascular Research Center on clinical, transla-tional, engineering, and basic science research. This 2011 update includes the most recent topics on pediatric cardiovascular research, such as: minimizing adverse effects of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) procedures, systemic inflammatory response syndrome, pulsatile versus nonpulsatile perfusion, quantification and classification of microemboli during CPB, translational research on the selection of the components of the CPB and extracorporeal life support (ECLS) circuitry, and pediatric ECLS systems, which include education and training at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital, real-time measurements of systemic inflammation using microfluidics, and plasma proteomics.
