Welcome to the European Society for Artificial Organs-International Federation for Artificial Organs joint congress in Porto, Portugal.

Dear colleagues and friends, It is a great pleasure to welcome you to Porto for the 4th European Society for Artificial Organs (ESAO)-International Federation on Artificial Organs (IFAO) Joint Congress (XXXVIII Congress of the European Society for Artificial Organs) (ESAO 2011) and IV Biennial Congress of the International Federation on Artificial Organs (IFAO 2011). I am quite sure you all are going to enjoy this conference held in the very hospitable and World Heritage city of Porto in Portugal. The venue, the Alfandega (Old Customs House) Congress Center, is located in the very heart of the Porto historical center on the north bank of the River Douro, overlooking the port wine cellars. Porto is a city of wonderful people and a dream for food and wine lovers. So make sure you enjoy it as much as possible with your friends and colleagues as I have done since I was born (not the wine for the first few years!) and I could never leave the city to live anywhere else!
