Organ replacement, medical device costs, and medical tourism: globalization of the clinical application of artificial organ technologies?

After a review of the number of patients in the USA on the waiting list for organ transplants, it is clear that the number is increasing year by year (Table 1). While the reasons for this increase include an increase in population and life expectancy among others, it is obvious that critical needs are not being met despite many efforts, to increase organ donations.
