GP fellowships now cover a wide range of specialties, making it an enticing endeavour. Since becoming a GP myself in 2020, it took me some time to enrol on the programme.It can be hard to identify exactly what interests you. Did we not pursue GP training because we are generalists? You will see adverts and communications selling the fellowship as a means of broadening your skills, but it is wise to take some time to reflect before joining one. It is important to remember what aspects of clinical care energise you most, or perhaps frustrate you. I saw a lot of patients with mental health problems while working in inner-city London, which has one of the highest rates of serious mental illness, and this sparked a curiosity within me.
