LAST YEAR saw a new record set for the number of business aviation flights, according to data released by WingX Advance on January 4. Just under 5.54 million flights were recorded globally during the 12 months of 2022, an increase of 10% over the previous year. In comparison to 2019 - the last pre-pandemic year -2022's total rose by 14.9%. Overall, business flight activity in Europe increased by 10.4% over 2021, with France the busiest, followed by the United Kingdom and Germany. The UK witnessed a 43.7% increase compared to 2021 (with 13.4% of the total of flights in Europe departing from the country last year), second only to Sweden (69.7%) in the region. Unsurprisingly, given the ongoing war in Ukraine, bizjet departures from Russia fell almost 60% compared to 2021, 46% fewer than 2019.
