US escalates dispute over Mexico’s GM corn ban

The dispute between Mexico and the US over the former’s phase out of genetically modified corn (maize) has deepened. The Office of the US Trade Representative has established a dispute settlement panel under the United States-Mexico- Canada Agreement (USMCA – successor trade deal to NAFTA) to counter the phase out. Trade Representative Katherine Tai made the move last week, saying the US was seeking to enforce “Mexico’s obligations under the USMCA”.
