LG chem's strong growth in sales and profits last year as well forecasts of higher numbers for 2005 cannot fully mask the challenges that its core businesses face in the near term.For 2004,the company posted a 26% year-on-year rise in sales to Won7120bn(USUS7.096bn),while operating profit increased by 9% to Won522bn.And for 2005,it has forecast a 5% expansion in sales to Won7480bn in anticipation of bullish petrochemical markets and steady demand for electronic appliances.Analysts' projections range from Won7279bn to Won7611bn.
