A Review of FERC Hydropower Licensing: What's Ahead?

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is responsible for regulating nearly all non-federal hydropower in the U.S. As the agency enters 2003, its hydropower staff is focused on pursuing various initiatives to meet current challenges―including a comprehensive rulemaking to reform the overall licensing process. In addition, FERC is gearing up to process about 135 relicense applications expected to be filed over the next ten years.
